Asterion Industrial Infra Fund II reaches €1.8bn Final Close in less than a year

  • Asterion’s second fund reached a final size of €1.8bn after raising the hard cap following approval from its investors.
  • Commitments to the Fund span 44 investors globally, with a high re-up rate from Fund I investors and strong participation from the management team.

Madrid, 15th February 2022 – Asterion Industrial Partners, an independent investment management firm focused on European infrastructure in the mid-market, announced today that it has reached the Final Close of its second Fund, Asterion Industrial Infra Fund II FCR, with €1.8bn in commitments. The closing of the Fund, which had an initial target of €1.35bn and a hard cap of €1.5bn, comes slightly less than one year after its registration with the regulator (CNMV). Following approval from its Fund investors, the hard cap was raised to €1.8bn late last year. Commitments to the Fund span 44 investors globally, with a high re-up rate from Fund I investors and strong participation from the management team.


Investors in the Fund include pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, asset managers, insurance companies and endowments from across Europe, North America, Middle East and Asia.


Asterion Fund II will have the same strategy as its predecessor fund, focusing on mid-market infrastructure investments in Western Europe and targeting the telecom, energy, utilities, and mobility sectors within its core focus markets of the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, and Italy. Using rigorous discipline on underwriting infrastructure risk and applying its industrial approach to value creation, Asterion will continue to seek attractive opportunities also in partnership with its Fund investors through co-investment as an important part of its strategy.


The Fund has already completed 4 investments with diversification in terms of countries and sectors and includes exposure to both the energy and telecom sectors as well as to Spain, Italy, the UK, and France. Three years after inception of the firm, the Asterion comprises a team of 33, based in Madrid and London, 12 investments across 2 funds and c€4bn of assets under management, including co-investment.
